The TOTO Dutch Open Darts 2023 saw over 1 million viewers tune in to RTL 7, the official Dutch viewing channel, at its peak. This marks a major milestone for the NDB and their showcase annual event, as it was the first time in history that the tournament was broadcasted on national RTL 7 television.

The tournament, which was held in the Netherlands from the 23-25th of April, saw a total of 2500 players competing in a double-elimination bracket. The men’s and women’s competition were won by two Dutch players and was watched by a total of 1,172,000 viewers.

Berry Van Peer who suffered with dartitis in one stage of his career, overcame Belgian International Andy Baetens 3-1 (sets) in the Final, with the 26-year-old winning the competition for the first time in Assen, averaging 88.29 against The Beast.

Aileen de Graaf defeated the WDF Ladies Champion and Number 1 Beau Greaves 5-2 in the Final of the lady’s competition, ending a three year wait for the trophy. The 32-year-old has claimed glory in the event 4 times, winning in 2015, 2016, 2020 and now 2023.

Beau and Arrow despite defeat was arguably involved in an epic game with Rhian O’Sullivan in the Semi Finals, winning a last leg decider 4-3 to reach the Final having won the event a year ago. The Swansea thrower despite defeat, averaged 97.14 over the course of the seven legs with both players scoring over 93 in Assen.

The Dutch Open was streamed online, providing viewers with the opportunity to watch the event from the comfort of their homes. In addition, the event was broadcast live on national television, allowing those who may not have access to the internet the chance to watch the tournament. This helped to increase the viewership significantly and provided a much larger audience for the event.

Paul Engelbertink CEO of the NDB said “The event was absolutely amazing and showed the world just how important darts is in the Netherlands and through the world. We were blown away by the support and the TV viewing figures were the icing on the cake”.

The TOTO Dutch Open Darts 2023 was a huge success and Simon Hall Marketing Director at Winmau added: “What an impressive total of 1,172,000 viewers tuning in to watch the TOTO Dutch Open final. The event marks a major milestone for the tournament, and we were thrilled that it was all played exclusively on The Blade 6 Triple Core”.

The Scottish Open returns in February, with England captain James Hurrell and Five Time Scottish Open winner Deta Hedman the defending champions, as competitive darts returns to the Normandy Cosmopolitan Hotel in Renfrew.
