Three-way Battle in Four Oaks League

As the winter leagues hit their stride Alan Towe looks at the greater Birmingham area:

Only average separates the top three teams in division one of the Four Oaks and District League.

Despite losing 5-4 at Red Lion, Nomads @ Hollyfields top the table with six points from five games while both Old Horns Lions and Highcroft Hotdogs are on the same six points but from four games. Dane Vickers had an eight darts game for Red Lion while Tim Vickers recorded a nine darts game. Kevin Smith had a 160 break for the Nomads as did Ray Frank for Charley’s Flights as they won 5-4 at home against Highcroft Hotdogs. 

In division two, Beggars Bush have six points from their four games played and although they didn’t play this week they are joint top with Erdington Arrows who had a 5-4 win at Deer’s Leap to put them level on points and average with Beggars Bush.. Rosey Mac’s, St Thomas Arrows and Drakes Drum are all on six points Rosey Mac’s having played five games, one more than the other top four teams,

Week two in the Sheldon and District Winter League and taking over in pole position in the Premier League is Sheldon Marlborough Arrows whose 9-0 win at EBAHA gives them a three legs advantage over second placed RAFA who had a 6-3 win at Banbury Club. After the top two there are four teams all on two points, two fewer than the leading duo, and they are Langley Arrows, Raven Arrows, Highwood and Mackadown Sports and Social Club with both Raven Arrows and Highwood having played just the one game so far.    

Top individual performances this week came from Tom Garfield (Langley Arrows) who had an eleven darts game as did John Smyth (RAFA) and Kristian Green (Banbury Club) while Alex Edwards (Mackadown Sports and Social Club) checked out on 106.

A 6-3 home win over Trident Spears keeps Yardley Ex Colts top of division one with Smithswood Social Club just two legs of average behind them after they won 5-4 at Sheldon Marlborough Ridge. The Cupkovic’s were in form for Trident Spears with Preston having a 106 finish and Connor recording a ten darts game.

A 5-4 home win over Langley Pints takes Lyndon Old Boys top of division two, the only other teams not to have lost so far in the division are Digby and Raven who have both only played one game, Digby had a bye this week while Raven ran out 5-4 home winners over Shirley Misfits.

The Camp Hill League produced a top of the table clash in week three as leaders Cotterills Lane EBAHA Club travelled to take on second in the league Wakefield Warriors, The result was a 5-2 win for Wakefield Warriors to put them two points clear at the top of the table with their opponents dropping one place to second level on four points with Wakefield Terriers and Roost Bosh, Terriers winning 4-3 at Erdington Nomads and Bosh going down 4-3 at home against Moseley Arms.

With just one more game to go in the South West Birmingham Clubs League division one leaders Stirchley United, for the first time this season in the nine games played lost, going down 4-3 at home to third in the division Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’. Second placed Quarry Club had had a 4-3 home win over Bournrook to keep within two points of the leaders and just three legs of average behind them. 

Division two leaders Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’ won 5-2 at home against Moseley All Services Club to keep them two points ahead of their nearest rivals Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club who are level on average with the leaders.

The majority of teams in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League now have just two more games to play. Old Liberal Club, who have already been acclaimed champions had a bye this week and although second in the league Gate Hangs Well ‘B’ won 5-2 at Netherton Conservative Club ‘A’ they are still eight points short of the top team. Third in the league Princess won 5-2 in their home tie with Glasscutters ‘B’ to remain two points behind Gate Hangs Well ‘B’ and four to the good on both fourth and fifth placed Five Ways and Netherton Conservative Club ‘B’. In Crestwood’s 5-2 home win over Raven ‘B’ both D.Simmer and R.Winchurch hit a maximum for the victors.

There are three more fixtures to be played in the Rowley Monday Night League and Bell have already retained their title as after their 7-2 home win over Loyal Lodge they are six points clear and have ahuge average lead over second placed Plough and Arrow who kept their runners-up challenge on course with a 5-4 home win over sixth placed Romsley Cricket Club, the win putting Plough and Harrow two points ahead of third placed Hawthorns who lost 5-4 away to Snooks who are eighth in the league.

Dudley Sports ‘A’, leaders of the Silver End Sunday Morning League had a bye in game twenty-eight but hold on to the number one spot with seventy-one points from their twenty-seven games and have a lead of four over second placed Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club plus a game in hand. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club reduced the leaders lead to four points with their 7-1 win at High Acres ‘A’ which at the same time gives them a two point’s lead on third placed Old Star who lost their away game at High Acres ‘C’ 5-3.

Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ top the Brierley Hill Monday Night League and even after having a bye this week they still have a four points lead over second in the table Maverick who won 6-3 at home against  fifth in the league Mount Pleasant who are on thirty points, ten short of the leaders. Roebuck ‘B’ are third, but it was not a good week for Roebuck as the ‘B’ side lost 5-4 at home to Rose and Crown ‘B’ who are eighth and the ‘A’ team lost 6-3 at tenth placed Rose and Crown ‘A’.

Bulls Head consolidated their top spot in the Netherton Thursday Night 501 League with an 8-1 home win over Netherton Conservative Club with the game including no fewer than four maximums, three of them going to Bulls Head players S.Tipper, B.Ratcliffe and B.Young with A.Purchase notching one for the Conservative Club. Old Liberal Club kept within two legs of average of Bulls Head winning 7-2 at Old Glasshouse whose D.Hann hit a 180. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ are joint third with Hill and Cakemore Ex Serviceman’s Club, Dudley Ex winning 8-1 at home against Plough and Harrow while Hill and Cakemore went one better with a 9-0 win at Mount Pleasant. British Oak also had a 9-0 win at Netherton Sports and Social Club with their C.Moreton not only having a 160 break but also hitting a 180.

New Inn 2 suffered a first defeat in their season’s seven games in the Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League when they lost 5-4 at Mount Pleasant who are third in the league but now on the same twelve points as their opponents. Second in the table Red Cow, who are also on twelve points, but from eight games, had a 5-4 win at Gornal British Legion.

There were only five games played in the West Midlands Ladies Super League this week, leader Jacqueline Maiden adding a straight 3-0 win over Sam Rowley to her tally to put her on seventy-eight points from twenty-seven games and giving her a clear two points lead over second placed Gemma Barrett who had a closer 3-2 win over Hannah Davies. Third in the league Jackie Trott didn’t play this week, she is on seventy-one points with two games in hand on the two players above her.

Just two fixtures were played in the West Midlands Men’s Super League this week which saw second in the league Kings Head ‘A’ win their home game with Shepwell Green 4-1 to leave them three points behind leaders Dog and Partridge but from one game more than their rivals. In the other game played Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’ won 4-1 against Landywood.

With the majority of players in the Amblecote RBL Premier League having just two more games to play Tom Bissell has gone top of the table with 391 points from seventy games after adding his latest 5-2 win over Cayden Smith and 4-3 success against reigning champion Nick Fullwell. Reece Colley is second he has played the same number of games as Bissell and has 374 points which is just one more than former league leader Dan Nicholls. Nick Fullwell has dropped down to fourth place on 348 points, again from seventy games.

Scott Baker, leader of division one in the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League was held to a 4-4 draw in his latest game by Simon Pritchard, he is now level on thirty-two games with second in the division Dean Simmons-Fullwood and still has a lead of seventeen points.

Second division leader Kurt Wright was also held to a 4-4 draw this week by his nearest rival Alan Melling who remains thirty-one points behind Wright.

Dave Thackeray was the only divisional leader to win this week adding a 7-1 success over Lauren Kempson to his account to give him a total of 300 points from thirty games and a lead of thirty points plus a game in hand on second placed Joe Bartolo who won 8-0 against Jenni Seedhouse.

No change in the top four places of the Singles League in the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League as leaders Junction ‘B’ added 6-1 home win over Milestone to their score to put them on thirty-eight points with a two points lead over second placed Hotshots who won 5-2 at Wednesfield Legion.

It’s as-you-were for the top three teams in the Doubles League, Junction ‘B’ once again leading the field with thirty-eight points after their latest 3-0 win over Milestone and again its Hotshots in second place two points adrift after they won 2-1 at Wednesfield Legion.
