The PDC have launched as part of a new PDC in the Community partnership with Smart Energy GB.
Unveiled as the Official Energy Partner of the PDC in a ground-breaking agreement, Smart Energy GB is the independent, non-profit organisation helping households access the benefits of smart meters.
“Darts on Your Doorstep” was launched by World Champion Luke Humphries alongside Smart Energy GB’s Deputy Director, Phillippa Brown, on Monday at the Drayton Manor Cricket & Social Club. The club received a makeover with the installation of a specially-redesigned darts area and further venues will have the chance to receive their own “Darts on Your Doorstep” session as part of the partnership.
The new initiative will reach more than 250 darts clubs in its first year in a bid to improve playing conditions at a grassroots level, drive increased participation and build on the sport’s rapid growth. Club members will also receive information on how smart meters can help them better manage their energy use and stay in control of their energy bills.
Clubs and pubs with a darts team are encouraged to register with PDC in the Community for their chance to get involved with the exciting new project.
Clubs will also have the chance to take part in the Smart Energy GB Darts Challenge, with the top performing clubs across the year winning a money can’t buy dart-fitting experience thanks to official equipment supplier Winmau. The far-reaching partnership will provide information on smart meters and their benefits at all TV events, as well as running exclusive competitions and giveaways across social media.
“It’s a hugely exciting moment for us to launch ‘Darts on Your Doorstep’ alongside Smart Energy GB in an innovative new partnership for us,” said PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter.
“We’ve had a great reaction since launching PDC in the Community earlier this year, and we’re delighted to help spotlight the benefits of smart meters for households.
“The “Darts on Your Doorstep” initiative will help educate people across the country as well as giving clubs the benefit of top-class Winmau equipment for their darts areas and the chance to see top players visit their venue.”
Following an information session on smart meters and money saving tips for winter at Drayton Manor Cricket & Social Club, Humphries stepped up to the oche to challenge players from their darts team and previewed his forthcoming defence of the Mr Vegas Grand Slam of Darts title.

Smart Energy GB’s Deputy Director, Phillippa Brown, said: “Darts is a game that brings people and communities together up and down Great Britain.
“Many of its players and fans know first-hand how important PDC in the community projects can be, so I am proud we’re able to join forces. The partnership will help people access support and information on smart meters; to see how having one installed can help you save money on your energy bills, which can be vital as we as we head into winter.”
Drayton Manor Cricket & Social Club also hosted the draw for the Mr Vegas Grand Slam of Darts, which will be held from November 9-17 as Humphries defends his title in Wolverhampton.
