Right then, it’s Vault 14.0 weekly review time – and with only 370 events to get through, we apologise in advance if your moment of darting brilliance doesn’t make the cut. If you hit a nine-darter (already have you covered Mitchell Lawrie!), bagged a title, or threw something vaguely straight and still don’t get a mention… sorry. You know how it is. If you’re nodding in understanding – and maybe mild sympathy – cheers!
Anyway, let’s dive in. I’m heading straight for the hat-trick club, scrolling through the endless list of results to see who’s been collecting match balls this week.
We’ll start north of the border, in the glorious city of Edinburgh. Steeped in history, and if Andy Davidson is anything to go by, also steeped in talent. The lad hit a treble this week, including a win in Dalkeith – which I’m assuming isn’t too far away.
Now, it’s not often a week goes by without mentioning the Tipton tungsten terror, Dan Nicholls. He’s at it again – four wins this time – and he’s getting dangerously close to being banned from every pub on Vault night. At this point, the poor locals must groan when he walks in holding his darts case.
David Pallet also had himself quite the week. The former PDC Tour Card holder not only grabbed a few Vault titles (including the daring act of stepping foot in Tipton to steal one) but then popped down to Selsey and won the WDF England Masters. That’s what you call stacking achievements – and mileage.
Over in Burtonwood and Riley’s Club, Liverpool, Harrison Leigh continues to make waves across the North-West. The Warrington lad is starting to carve out a name for himself – not easy when your hometown already has a darting superstar who’s a bit of a household name. Still, great to see another local flying the flag.
As per usual, was doing his thing in Shrewsbury – no shock there – and Jordan Brookes was banging them in up in Blackpool, bagging three wins of his own. Down south, Kevin Edwards spread his success nicely between Clacton-on-Sea and Colchester.
Heading to North Yorkshire now and in Whitby, Oliver Mitchell was in superb form, averaging mid-80s across all three of his victories. Back in Scotland, Steve Johnson pulled off the exact same feat and numbers up in Falkirk and Airdrie
Now, to the stat that matters most – only one player this week broke the ton tournament average. Step forward, Mr David Pallet, who fired in a monstrous 101.05 at the Samba Darts Academy in Tipton. Not sure how Dan Nicholls feels about sharing the town spotlight, but even he’s got to applaud that one. To be fair, he wasn’t there on the night, which probably helped.
Ryan Branley also deserves a shout-out – the young Geordie continues to shine. He was superb in the Shankhouse, Cramlington, throwing mid-90s on his way to another Vault title. Actually, there were six tournament averages over 90 this week – Pallet grabbed three of them, with Branley, Simon Stevenson, and James Richardson joining the party.
And finally – if you’re reading this thinking, “I’d fancy a go, but those averages sound terrifying” – don’t panic. Not everyone’s smashing in 180s for fun. In plenty of Vault events this week, an average of 60 was enough to get you right in the mix. So grab your darts, join the fun here, and who knows – you might be the next one we’re talking about here next week.
