Holden Does Winmau Championship North Double

Diamond Draws Competitions

Events Three and Four at Winmau Championship North went the way of Kim Holden, as she did the double at Middlesbrough Sports Village.

Holden would start in the last 64 at Event Three, averaging over 77 for a 4-3 win against Judith Pike, and a pair of 4-2 wins followed over Rebecca Barrow and Rebecca Hoyland respectively.

A 5-3 success against Jody Hancock moved Holden into the last four, where she then repeated the feat against Lauryn Salter to make the final.

Awaiting her in the final would be the in-form Natalie Gilbert, but the Event One winner was no match for Holden, who triumphed 5-1 in the showpiece match.

A trio of whitewash wins put Gilbert into the last eight, and she thrashed Kelly Haverson 5-1 and then got past Angela Kirkwood 5-2 to oppose Holden.

Finishes of 76 and 114 put Holden 4-1 up in the final, and she didn’t let up, an 18-darter banking her the first prize of £500.

‘Lioness’ Holden wasn’t finished there, winning Event Four later in the afternoon with a 5-3 win against Sara Walton doubling her title tally for the weekend.

After starting with a whitewash win in her opener, Holden then took out Event Two winner Vicky Pruim in a final leg to book a quarter final place, where she hammered Tracey Heppinstall 5-0.

Holden would meet Lauryn Salter again in the last four, and it was repeat and not revenge as Holden won 5-3 once more to move into the final.

Walton dropped just one leg to make the quarters, but needed all nine legs to see off Judith Pike, and went the distance to make the final, taking a tense 5-4 win against Eleanor Cairns.

Holden went 3-1 up in the finale, and although a 78 finish kept Walton in the match at 4-3, Holden held firm, a 17-darter clinching a title double.

The Southern version of the Championship commences on May 9.
