Changing your approach to high level darts can lead to a real mixed bag of consequences. ‘quelle surprise’ it is darts after all.
I have recently tweaked my schedule and approach to focus far more on quality than quantity. Once you hit a certain age it can be counter productive to just play as much as possible and it’s even true of practice.
Combined with the demands of returning to full time work and an ever growing extended family it can be a challenge to ensure everything gets the proper amount of attention and concentration.

My new strategy seems to be working from some viewpoints. One of my favourite tests is the REDSL League in Derbyshire and my more recent form has been very reassuring. I am unbeaten so far in what is a very high quality Premier Division. I even managed to edge out the latest teenage sensation, Henry Coates, in the first match of the season.

Recently Darren Webster and I reignited an old rivalry, – on the board only, he is a good guy – a 5-1 win with a 102 average and no leg over 16 darts was an example of what is still within the Wizard’s grasp.
Sadly, this has not really translated onto the Challenge Tour this year with a bad habit of win one lose one being even more prominent. There is one more chance to improve that this coming weekend so let’s hope we can set a different precedent within the PDC structure once again.

MODUS Super Series was another example of the mixed bag. I had a decent week with a clean sweep and two other decent days meaning I grabbed the Group A qualifying spot. Previously the days off before the finale did not always work well for me and the same was true once again.

Saturday felt totally different and I had to use all my experience to get out of the Group stage. Tom Sykes is in much too good form this year to be vulnerable to a Wizard at 75% or less and so it proved in our semi final.
See you out there soon – #UTB
