Scandi Stars Dominate in Gothenburg

Diamond Draws Competitions

The fourth staging of the 2026 PDC Nordic & Baltic Tour headed to Sweden, as players contested a crucial Pro Tour darts double-header alongside qualification events for a trio of forthcoming PDC European Tour tournaments.

With ranking points, prize money and valuable European Tour berths all on the line, the weekend in Gothenburg delivered a compelling blend of high-calibre tungsten and significant ramifications for the wider Nordic and Baltic campaign.

PRO TOUR EVENTS

Beginning with the seventh event of the 2026 calendar, it was veteran Lithuanian ace Darius Labanauskas who captured his seventeenth career title on the circuit courtesy of an emphatic dismantling of Sweden’s Daniel Larsson in the final.

After being tested during the early stages by compatriot Arūnas Sakalauskas, Lucky D encountered genuine resistance only in the quarter-finals, where Sweden’s Anton Östlund pushed the Lithuanian all the way to a deciding leg in a fiercely competitive encounter.

From that point onwards, however, Labanauskas elevated his level considerably. The three-time PDC Challenge Tour title winner was in utterly imperious form across the latter stages, surrendering just two legs combined in both the semi-final and final to secure yet another notable accolade in his distinguished career.

Attention then turned to the second event of the weekend, where emotions proved markedly contrasting for the two finalists involved. Having fallen at the concluding hurdle twenty-four hours earlier, Daniel Larsson returned in resolute fashion to finally go one step further, overcoming Labanauskas’ conqueror from earlier in the day to secure the title.

For Finland’s Jani Haavisto, however, it represented another agonising near miss. The Finn endured a third defeat in a deciding match across the weekend, compounding the frustration of his earlier disappointments in the European Tour qualification events.

Larsson’s route to the title was undeniably impressive. The Swede dispatched a pair of Danish competitors in Andreas Nielsen and Bent Lambertsen during the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively before withstanding a spirited late rally from Haavisto in the decider to conclude the weekend in triumphant fashion.

Despite an early exit in the latest event, Cor Dekker retains his position at the summit of the Order of Merit standings. Larsson’s Sunday success, meanwhile, propelled him above Haavisto into second place and into the provisional World Championship qualification positions.

EURO TOUR QUALIFIERS

As for the trio of European Tour qualification events, Finland emerged victorious in the opening two before Sweden prevented a complete Finnish clean sweep in the final qualifier.

In an all-Finnish showdown, Marko Kantele kept compatriot Jani Haavisto at bay to secure qualification for July’s trip to Germany. Another Finnish representative, Jonas Masalin, subsequently booked his place in Hungary later this summer courtesy of a convincing victory over Latvia’s Dmitriy Zhukov.

The final qualification berth for the Czech Darts Open was eventually claimed by Sweden’s Johan Engström, who denied Finland a complete sweep of the qualifying events while simultaneously extinguishing Haavisto’s hopes once more.

Despite another painful setback, the Finn does at least occupy first reserve status for a pair of the forthcoming European Tour events, meaning qualification opportunities may yet materialise should withdrawals occur closer to the tournaments themselves.
