Devon Petersen remains one of the most recognisable and charismatic figures in modern PDC darts. Known as “The African Warrior,” the South African has always blended showmanship — with his energetic walk-ons and crowd-pleasing routines — with genuine competitive ambition.
Now 40, Petersen is still determined to make one more serious push back onto the PDC Tour. Despite stepping away from the regular ProTour grind, he hasn’t given up on re-establishing himself at the highest level. At the same time, he continues to pour energy into growing the game across Africa.

Recent developments in his off-table projects have freed up more time for his own game. Petersen has been tracking his performance in detail and pinpoint exactly where he stands. He believes a focused few months of hard work could be enough to put him back in contention for a Tour Card and sustained PDC competition. He’s under no illusions about the challenge.
The standard on the ProTour has risen sharply, with more matches, deeper talent, and greater experience across the board. Still, Petersen sees a sport in transition, with a new generation coming through and potential openings for proven returners like himself. Away from his own career, his passion for African darts runs deep.

Petersen Still Champions Darts’ Bigger Picture
Devon was particularly disappointed by Uganda’s absence from the recent World Cup of Darts due to complex logistical and documentation issues. Petersen stresses it wasn’t a simple administrative failure and says valuable lessons have been learned to avoid similar problems in future.
The bigger picture in Africa, he says, is clear: talent is not the problem. The real barriers are structural and economic — limited funding, lack of access to top equipment, and insufficient international exposure. Initiatives like the African Darts Group are beginning to build proper pathways, but progress remains slow and challenging.
Even so, Petersen is cautiously optimistic about the continent’s future in the sport. As one of its leading ambassadors, he’s proud of what’s already been achieved — but the competitive fire still burns brightly. For now, he’s not ready to close the chapter on one final, determined tilt at the PDC.
