Toronto-born Gary Mawson will join Leonard Gates at the upcoming PDC US Masters after edging past Adam Sevada to secure a coveted World Series berth.
Now residing in Florida, the 63-year-old veteran arrow-smith negotiated a formidable field featuring many of North America’s most accomplished talents to earn himself a shot against one of the PDC’s elite stars at Madison Square Garden later this month.

Having progressed serenely to the quarter-finals, Mawson produced a dramatic deciding-leg triumph over experienced Canadian Jeff Smith before dispatching one of the United States’ World Cup of Darts representatives, Stowe Buntz, with impressive authority.
The veteran then completed his journey to the Big Apple by overcoming the other American World Cup star, Adam Sevada, in an exhilarating and hard-fought final.
Attention then shifted to the next CDC double-header in Pennsylvania, where the first title of the weekend was captured by none other than Madison Square Garden-bound Leonard Gates.

The charismatic Texan commenced his campaign by accounting for Canadian duo Ben Goddard and Rettie Tyler before leaving a trio of compatriots in his wake, overcoming Mike Scarborough, Fred Krueger and Nick Linberg to reach the showpiece occasion. Awaiting Soulger in the final was arguably the most recognisable figure in North American darts history, John Part.
The three-time World Champion remains one of the continent’s most distinguished exports, but unfortunately for Darth Maple, Gates proved a class apart. Producing another commanding display, the colourful American wrapped up a convincing 7-3 success to claim the spoils.
The action then moved onto the second event of the weekend, which also represented the fourth CDC Tour tournament of the season. On this occasion, it was Danny Young who emerged victorious, claiming the title courtesy of a pulsating and nerve-shredding triumph over Ronald Sargent in the final.
Young’s route to glory was anything but straightforward. The American produced a series of accomplished displays, notably claiming the scalps of both Leonard Gates and Alex Spellman on his march to the decider. There, he faced fellow countryman Sargent in a thoroughly enthralling encounter, eventually prevailing by the narrowest of margins to secure the championship and add his name to the growing list of CDC Tour winners.
