Newly crowned World Master Gemma Hayter captured a double win in the first two events of the weekend at WADC Winmau Championship South, as she claimed glory in both Events Five and Six in Aylesbury.
After winning a title in the first block of events in May, Hayter won her second and third crowns of the campaign to take a stranglehold at the top of the standings at Bradmoor Farm.
A strong field assembled, with the likes of Fallon Sherrock making her Championship debut, but Red Dragon’s Hayter emerged victorious on both occasions.
Gemma had to work hard to secure Event Five success, as she took a nip and tuck 5-4 win in the final against the in-form Vicky Pruim.
She started the day in some style, a 95.43 average accounting for Rose Mort in a 4-0 whitewash win, and wins against Debbie Dexter and Lauren Broomfield moved her into the quarter finals, where she defeated Eleanor Cairns (5-3).
Hayter would then ease her way into the final, getting past Tracey Dean, 5-2. Joining her for a rematch of their recent World Matchplay meeting was Pruim, who lost one leg in making the last 16 with wins against Lauryn Salter and Emma Chubb, before Eve Watson was defeated 4-2 to allow the Swede to make the quarter finals.
Pruim (above) dismissed Abi Mole with an 80.81 average in a 5-0 romp, and was equally as impressive in opposing Hayter in the final, as she averaged over 82 to surge past Fallon Sherrock in a dominant 5-1 win.
Just like Blackpool, their contest went the distance, an 11-darter for Hayter the highlight, and after missing darts for victory, Hayter had to watch Pruim miss two darts of her own for the title before returning to pin the winning double and bank the £500 first prize.
Hayter could well have seen her double dreams go up in smoke at Event Six, as Deta Hedman missed a raft of doubles in the opening round to dump her out, but Hayter again came away with the novelty cheque, as she breezed past Eve Watson 5-0 in the final.
After squeezing past Hedman, Hayter then turned back the challenges of Chelsea Campbell and Steph Clarke, and raced into the final four by whitewashing talented youngster Macy Gibbons, and an 81.41 average was enough to seal a place in the showpiece, with Rose Mort on the end of a 5-1 defeat.
Mort had edged Lauren Broomfield in the last eight, who had stunned Fallon Sherrock in the last 16 in a 4-1 win. Watson had started with 4-2 wins against Stephanie Potter and Rebecca Hoyland, and whitewashed Holli Jarmaine before a sublime 97.70 average accounted for Vicky Pruim in a stunning 5-1 quarter final win.
Watson backed that up with a 5-2 victory against Trina Gulliver MBE to sail into the title match. Hayter proved peerless though, averaging over 83 and sealing the title with a 14-darter to mark a very fruitful day indeed.
Hayter moved 127 points clear of Gulliver atop the standings, with Eve Watson and Lou Pearson 12 points behind in third and fourth place respectively.
The action continues on Sunday, with Events Seven and Eight on the agenda.
