Baetens Breaks Through: Belgian Claims Maiden Super Series Crown in Portsmouth Thriller
Andy Baetens finally has his name on a MODUS Super Series weekly title. The Belgian, long regarded as one of the most dangerous players on the Live Lounge circuit, sealed Series 15 Week 3 glory on Saturday night with a tense last-leg victory over Llew Bevan.
It was a night of redemption for “The Beast.” After topping Group A earlier in the week with a commanding points tally, Baetens arrived on Finals Night as the clear favourite and left as champion, booking his place in Champions Week in the process.
How Saturday’s Finals Unfolded
The six-man Finals Night line-up was completed on Friday evening when Asa Cansdale, Dylan Slevin, Llew Bevan, José de Sousa and Dom Taylor all secured their spots alongside Group A winner Baetens.
On the big night itself Baetens wasted little time asserting his authority. He first secured the throw for the semi-finals with a convincing group-stage win, then dispatched Dom Taylor in clinical fashion to reach the final.
In the other half of the draw, Welshman Llew Bevan produced the performance of his week. He topped his section and then produced a composed semi-final display to eliminate José de Sousa, the former Grand Slam champion making his Super Series debut.
That set up an intriguing final between the experienced Belgian and the in-form Welshman. The match lived up to its billing, stretching all the way to a deciding leg.
With the pressure at its highest, Baetens held his nerve and closed out the contest to claim his first weekly Super Series title.

Significance
For Baetens the win carries extra weight. Despite consistent strong showings and moments of brilliance — including a 109 average demolition earlier in the week — a weekly title had previously eluded him.
Saturday night’s success removes that particular monkey from his back and confirms his status among the genuine contenders for Series 15 honours.
Bevan can take plenty of credit for a fine campaign that saw him peak at the right time, while de Sousa’s presence added genuine star quality to the week even if his Finals Night run ended in the last four.
Week 3 of Super Series 15 will be remembered as the moment former Lakeside champion Baetens converted Portsmouth promise into silverware.
The Belgian will now return for Champions Week with genuine belief, while the Super Series rolls on next week with a fresh field and another round of high-stakes darts in Portsmouth.
