Emine Dursun claimed her second WDF title of the year on Saturday, beating Irina Armstrong 5-3 in the Swedish Open Final and sealing the win with a brilliant 116 finish to close things out. Its the kind of finish that has underpinned what continues to be a strong season for the Turkish international.
Armstrong will have taken plenty of encouragement from her own run to the final, but Dursun’s composure at the business end of the match proved the difference. With the WDF Women’s circuit as competitive as it has ever been in years, this was another statement result from a player firmly established among the leading names in the women’s game.
If Saturday belonged to Dursun’s consistency, Sunday was all about the emotion of a home triumph. Anna Forsmark claimed the Women’s Swedish Masters title on home soil, edging past Norway’s Rachna David in a last-leg decider to complete the win.
There’s no bigger stage for a Swedish player than a national final in front of a home crowd, and Forsmark held her nerve when it mattered most, seeing off a David side that pushed her all the way to the wire.
It’s the sort of result that will live long in the memory for anyone in the venue on Sunday, and a reminder of just how competitive the Women’s WDF game is continuing to get.
