The Iceland Open threw its regular diet of remarkable storylines of the WDF season this weekend, as Iceland’s Southern peninsula, Reykjanesbær played host to a men’s final for the ages and a veteran champion in the women’s draw.

Carsten Hoffmann’s name will be unfamiliar to most, but the German’s route to the title was anything but routine.
Trailing Matthew Edgar 5-1 in the final, Hoffman reeled off six of the next seven legs, sealing a 7-6 win with a 15-dart finish. It’s Hoffman’s first WDF title since the 1996 World Masters Youth, closing out a three-decade gap between ranking successes.
Edgar, the former PDC tour card holder known as “Prime Time,” seemed to have taken some consolation and enjoyment from the runner up spot given his own history in Iceland, lifting the Masters title here back in 2023 and from the fact he felt he had not been in good form all day.

A repeat will have to wait for Edgar, but having reached the final of both tournaments this weekend, a spot back at Lakeside is looking ever closer.

Edgar had looked in ominous form en route to the final, easing past Jimmi Nielsen 6-0 in the semis, while Hoffman had to work harder in a 6-4 win over home favourite Kristján Sigurðsson.
