The Iceland Masters delivered a fitting sequel to Saturday’s Open drama, with Aaron Turner ending years of near misses in the men’s final. Aaron Turner has been knocking on the door for a long time. and as recently as this year’s World Masters he was beaten in a deciding leg at the semi-final stage.

That wait is now over, and it came as the expense of a player who knows Turner’s pain all too well this weekend. Matthew Edgar, beaten in Saturday’s Open final, looked to be heading for redemption after easing past Lewis Mackenzie in the last eight and Jimmi Nielsen 5-2 in the semis.
But Turner, who’d needed a 5-4 escape against Niels Joergen Hansen in his own quarter-final, turned the final around to win 7-6 and survive match darts of his own along the way.
It’s a breakthrough that’s been a long time coming for Turner, and one that will go down as one of the many fondly regarded stories of this WDF season.
