Archie Self further enhanced his growing reputation by capturing glory at Champions Week of Season 15 of MODUS Super Series, with ‘The Archer’ taking a 4-2 win against Andy Baetens in the final in Portsmouth.
Self won Group A earlier in the week, and he began his Finals Night campaign with a 4-3 win against David Davies, and thanks to Baetens’ 4-0 win against Davies, the Belgian’s 4-3 group stage win against Self meant both went through to the semi finals.
Over in Group 2, Scott Robertson routed reigning champion Derek Coulson 4-0, and then edged Darren Beveridge 4-3 to advance, and he was joined by Coulson, who whitewashed Beveridge to continue his title defence.
That defence ended at the hands of Baetens, who took a final-leg win in the last four, and Self booked his place in the final in some style, averaging 107.92 in taking out Robertson in a 4-2 victory that set up a mouth-watering showpiece.
Self took advantage of some sloppiness on the doubles from Baetens to go 3-1 ahead, and although Baetens pulled a leg back, a 16-darter from Self secured the title and the first prize.
