ONE OF the “greats” of British Darts over the past 20 years, Billy Lennard, has died at his home at Heywood, Greater Manchester, at the age of 62.
Billy had represented Lancashire for many years and was a proud member of the first ever England national darts team and made over 30 appearances for his country including the 1979 World Cup in Las Vegas.
His early successes included the Nodor Challenge Cup in 1961 when he captained the Cotton Tree, Manchester to victory.
But his “golden year” was 1976 when he took the News of the World International trophy at Alexandra Palace.
Billy was one of the most popular and respected personalities and will be sadly missed.
