BRITISH TEENAGE: Stephen’s world warm-up

CELEBRATING his selection to represent England in the Youth World Cup in Malaysia later this month, 16-year-old Stephen Bunting took the 2001 British Teenage Championship title at the Kettering Leisure Village, Northants.

Competing against 73 other county youth champions, Stephen defeated Pembrokeshire’s Andrew Davies 3-2 in the final with an average of 28.48. Andrew’s average was 26.58.

Stephen hit an incredible 35.79 average in the semi-finals when he beat Shayne Townsend (Yorks) 3-1.

Andrew Davies fought back from a 2-0 deficit in the other semi-final to go through 3-2.

As championship finalists Stephen received prizes to the value of £400 and Andrew to the value of £200.

The championships were sponsored by Elkadart, Darts World magazine and the British Darts Organisation.
