Flying Dutch darts sensation Wessel Nijman became the first player this season to surge his way to a brace of PDC Players Championship titles, defeating Joe Cullen in a compelling and high-calibre final.
It has been a truly magnificent and emphatically explosive start to 2026 for the Mission man, who ended his previous campaign hinting at precisely this kind of meteoric rise.
Thus far, only Luke Humphries has managed to secure both a Players Championship and Euro Tour title this year. Now, Nijman has elevated himself further, completing a remarkable hat-trick of titles in scintillating fashion.
Perhaps even more striking is the fact that Nijman opted to skip Leicester’s double-header last month. Consequently, in just six appearances this season, he has reached the final or better in exactly half of them – a statistic that underlines both his consistency and burgeoning dominance.

The 25-year-old commenced his campaign in commanding style, dismantling Germany’s Dominik Gruellich with a sumptuous 103.57 average to burst out of the blocks. Following a composed victory over Thomas Lovely and a clinical whitewash of Tytus Kanik, the Dutchman then edged past Keane Barry – himself enjoying something of a resurgence – in a nervy last-leg decider.
Next to fall was another player rediscovering his formidable best, Dave Chisnall. In arguably the most exhilarating and high-quality encounter of the day, both competitors surged beyond the ton-plus barrier, but it was Nijman who prevailed, displaying composure and clinical precision in a tightly-contested affair.
Into the semi-finals, and yet another titanic battle awaited against compatriot Kevin Doets, a player also enjoying a sustained upward trajectory. The contest oscillated dramatically before Nijman seized the initiative at the pivotal moment, delivering a decisive and ruthlessly efficient flourish to deny Hawkeye only his second career final appearance.
For Cullen, the Rockstar’s route to the final was far more turbulent and attritional, characterised by resilience and last-leg survival. After overcoming Michael Smith in a scrappy encounter neither player will fondly recall, he edged past Damon Heta and Tom Sykes in successive deciding-leg thrillers to reach the quarter-finals.
Awaiting him there was Charlie Manby, who, for the second consecutive afternoon, had navigated his way into the last eight. Following another hard-fought victory, Cullen progressed to dispatch talented Polish prospect Sebastian Bialecki, securing his place in the final.

At the halfway stage, Nijman held a slender 4-3 advantage, with neither player able to establish any meaningful separation. However, after trading the next two legs, the Dutch arrow-smith shifted through the gears with devastating authority, reeling off three consecutive legs to ultimately seal his fourth Players Championship title in emphatic fashion.

A special mention is due for Team DartsWorld’s Sebastian Bialecki. The Polish star is continuing as he left off toward the end of the 2025 season and is seeming to settle in properly to the elite level this time.
