Saturday’s round two matches in Bratislava, saw the top seeds arrival as they endeavoured to book their places in the final day of the Slovak Darts Open.
Day Two produced several shocks, some stellar performances, and a saw few seeds stumble at the Incheba Expo, as top seed Gian van Veen fell short to suffer another round two exit at the hands of Rob Cross.
The former World Champion will take on Dutch star Kevin Doets in the opening game of Sunday’s action, after Doets raced through his round two contest, beating another seed, in the form of Australian number one, Damon Heta 6-2.
Baltic Sea Darts Open champion Luke Woodhouse could not continue his excellent form on the European Tour stage, as the 37-year-old was beaten by Andrew Gilding 6-4.Gilding is rewarded with a last sixteen tie with Michael van Gerwen.
Nathan Aspinall will take on English compatriot Ryan Searle in round three, as the pair secured victories against Jim Long and Kim Huybrechts in their opening ties of the weekend.
Niels Zonneveld nearly produced the comeback of the tournament so far, as the Dutchman battled back from 5-2 down to force the decider against Stephen Bunting, but it was Bunting who booked his place in Sunday’s action.
Bunting will take ProTour leader Wessel Nijman in round three, as the in-form Dutchman swept aside Slovenia’s Benjamin Pratnemer 6-2.Ross Smith and Chris Dobey close out our round three action, and the pair will go head-to-head following successes against Joe Cullen and Tyler Thorpe respectively.
The final day at the Incheba Expo will get underway from 1300 local time (1200 BST), as the last 16 players will battle it out for a spot in the final session of the Slovak Darts Open.
