Drayton’s Double Bid Falls Short

Diamond Draws Competitions

Jack Drayton’s bid to become only the second player to win multiple MODUS Super Series fell just short on Saturday as the Series 13 Champion was defeated by the eventual winner Scott Campbell at the semi final stage in the latest weekly qualifier.

Campbell was crowned the winner of Week Two at the MODUS Super Series, after defeating Lee Evans in the final to secure a place in Champions Week and winning the weekly top prize.

Scott, who entered the finale having finished 3rd in Group B on Thursday and Friday, began the night by winning one of his two group phase matches, as he firstly defeated Berry Van Peer before suffering a defeat to Lee Evans.

However, the Scotsman did progress through to the Semi Finals, where he came up against Drayton, and from there, Campbell secured a deciding leg victory over the former champion to book his place in the final.

What followed was arguably the tie of the night, Campbell edging it 4-3 to end Drayton’s run, and, with it, a scoreline that carries a little extra weight this year.

Drayton currently sits second on the PDC Development Tour Order of Merit, comfortably clear of the chasing pack behind Sebastian Bialecki, and the top two non-Tour Card players on that list at season’s end are handed a card.

Keep that form up, and there’s every chance this Super Series run of his ends up a much shorter one than most. Campbell may have ended Drayton’s career at the Live Lounge just as Bialecki did to a certain Luke Littler three years ago.

In the decider, Campbell came up against Lee Evans for the second time on the night, who’d defeated Reece Colley in the last four, and this time, Campbell got his revenge against his English opponent, as he sealed a 4-2 victory to book his place in Champions Week as well as collecting the £5,000 first prize.
