Dekker Dominates Nordic and Baltic Darts Weekend

Diamond Draws Competitions

Latvia once again played host to the second darts weekend of this year’s PDC Nordic & Baltic Tour, featuring the next brace of Pro Tour events alongside three all-important Euro Tour qualification tournaments.

Following February’s curtain-raising instalment in Riga, the action returned to the Northern European nation, bringing with it another compelling and richly competitive chapter.

Beginning with the Pro Tours, the weekend opened with something of a fairytale debut for Jonas Sorensen. Not only did the Dane claim his first-ever title, he achieved the feat at the very first time of asking. The Scandinavian navigated a demanding path to the quarter-finals, where he edged past the vastly experienced Oskar Lukasiak.

From that point onwards, Sorensen surged imperiously to victory, dismantling compatriot Jonas Graversen and then Norway’s Cor Dekker in the final, both by emphatic 6-1 scorelines, to complete a dreamlike introduction.

However, Dekker responded with admirable resilience, transforming himself from runner-up to champion in the fourth Pro Tour event of the season. The Dutch-born Norwegian produced a similarly dominant display, recording a 6-1 triumph in the final against Jani Haavisto. His route to the title was equally impressive, navigating a quality-laden field that, aside from Haavisto, included victories over two additional Finnish opponents. Dekker lifted the title having conceded just seven legs throughout the entire event, three of which came against Jonas Graversen.

Onto the trio of Euro Tour qualifiers, where only a single coveted spot was available in each. For Anton Ostlund, it proved to be a weekend of considerable success, as the Swede impressively doubled up. He first overcame home favourite Valters Melderis to secure qualification for the German Darts Grand Prix in Munich.

Shortly afterwards, Melderis exacted swift revenge, turning the tables on Ostlund by edging a tense last-leg decider to claim his own place at the European Darts Grand Prix in Sindelfingen. Yet the Swede displaying notable tenacity, rebounded once more, defeating Jonas Graversen to ensure his name would also feature at the Austrian Darts Open in Graz.

The Nordic & Baltic Tour now rolls onward to the end of April, where Finland will host the next brace of Pro Tour events, alongside further opportunities to qualify for an additional trio of Euro Tour competitions.
