Daniel Ayres rounded off his weekend at ADC Winmau Championship North in some style taking his second title of the weekend at the final event of four at Middlesbrough Sports Village.
Ayres, who won Event Two on saturday evening, made it a double on the weekend as he thrashed Danny Lauby 5-1 in the Event Four final.
Event Three began Sunday’s proceedings, and it was Lewis Pride that took the spoils and the £1,000 first prize on Teeside.
Pride took glory, as he got the better of a 5-3 win against former PDC Professional Willie Borland to take home the winners’ cheque.
Wins against Eddie Lovely, Jack Smith and Tom Smith booked a last 32 place for Pride, where he averaged over 91 in a 4-1 win against Alan Boyd.
A 96.07 average was enough for Pride to see off Robert Rickwood 5-4 in the last 16, and after eliminating impressive youth talent Lewis Cook, he raced to the final, handing Steve Hine a whitewash.
Scotland’s Borland dropped one leg in making the last 16, including a win over Steve Lennon, and he averaged over 93 in a final-leg success against Stuart Dutton.
A 5-3 win against Graham Usher advanced Borland into the last four, where an average north of 90 clinched a 5-0 win against Bradley Coltman.
The final was a scrappy affair, where finishes of 96 and 117 saw Pride into a 3-1 lead, and he largely controlled the action, with a 71 checkout sealing his success.
Pride would choose to opt out of Event Four, and it was Ayres that became a double winner on the weekend with a series of solid performances.
Wins against Kenzie Cann, Gav Smith and Eddie Lovely saw Ayres into the last 16, where he defeated former PDC Pro Dylan Slevin 5-3, and he blasted past Richard Rowlands to make the last four, taking victory without reply.
Ayres saved his best for the semi finals, recording a 105.71 average in a superb 5-1 win against Gary Stone, and USA’s Lauby would await him in the trophy match.
Lauby dropped two legs in making quarter finals, and defeated Ash Ling to make the final four, where he dodged six match darts from Tommy Morris to advance.
He was no match for Ayres in the final, as finishes of 81, 70 and 54 put him 4-1 up, and a 13-darter completed the job, and a profitable weekend for Ayres.
The next instalment of the Winmau Championship takes place on May 9-10, with Aylesbury hosting the next block of South events.
